Workaround land, or missing functionality?

Why can't they just generate the invoice for the contract early? The system doesn't really let them. And if they create an invoice by hand for those lines, I don't know how that affects what actually got paid on the contract, or the billing that's built into the contract object. So I keep landing on one question, which I asked out loud on the session: "at what point is the business doing the wrong thing?… they've been in workaround land for years, because they've never had this capability. Or at what point is the system or the software actually missing… needed functionality?" I called it ranting, and I think it's the question a team needs answered before deciding what to change.
