MQL, SQL: I can't even make that distinction
Chris Carolan · Thursday, October 22, 2026
MQL, SQL: I can't even make that distinction easily, and that tells you how ambiguous the problem is. Opportunity opens and now it's real: I am buying. We call them the buyer, the hand raiser, yet we put things in our system like MQL and SQL. A new salesperson comes in from somewhere that did it differently and says "SQL meant this over here." Nobody trained them on what SQL means, so they carry a huge assumption from their own experience, and then they handle it in a different way than their team does. Meanwhile we talk about it in these terms on live calls, like sales meetings. If your team argues over a stage name, you get a way to see that the definition is missing from the system, not from the people. If a new rep joined tomorrow, what would SQL mean to them? October sessions are free; all you need is a free Hubsessed subscription. Replay clip from Hubsessed Office Hours: Unified Revenue View. Ryan Ginsberg and I hosted as equals.
