Hubsessed Office Hours: Reporting and Dashboards

Worst answer: the configuration has not changed

Joshua Oakes · Wednesday, October 14, 2026

The worst answer to an exec who says the numbers look wrong sounds constructive: the report configuration hasn't changed. It's true, and it isn't the answer. Did somebody change the dashboard filters? Did the stakeholder change them? It's easy to permanently change a filter by accident in drill down mode from a dashboard. And a filter can have unexpected consequences across the objects in a multi-object dashboard: change the owner filter and your meetings and activities reports can be wrong while your deal and contact reports are right, because owner isn't the same property for all of them. Encourage, but don't try to enforce, stakeholders asking in our technical language. We need to be able to translate what they're asking. When the numbers don't look right, don't say nothing's changed. Say, tell me what that looks like, and we can drill in. What's the first thing you check when a number looks wrong?
