Audience: a word anyone can look up

Chris Carolan · Friday, October 16, 2026

What should you call a person in your database who is on your radar but hasn't engaged yet? "New" depends on who you ask. My suggestion is Audience. Casey Hawkins asked the right question: what's the definition? Her worry was that for some people audience means anyone, and that people move forward once they've interacted with us. I think it fits both. We care about this group of people in both scenarios, and the next step for both is intentional engagement from either direction that can take them into the Lead stage or down the qualification process. Audience works in a way that I think most other words don't. New is very contextual: what does that mean for your business? But anybody can look in the dictionary and see the word audience and see the same definition. You can ask AI what it means and it will give you the same definition. You get a stage name that needs no explaining to a new teammate. What does "new" mean in your business, and could everyone on your team say it the same way? October sessions are free; all you need is a free Hubsessed subscription. Replay clip from Hubsessed Office Hours: HubSpot Super Admin. George B. Thomas and I hosted as equals.
